Burwood Brickworks
Burwood Brickworks is a diverse mixed‑use development incorporating retail and commercial spaces, high‑rise apartments, wetlands, a village green, civil subdivision and medium‑density residential areas. With multiple third‑party stakeholders—including the RSPCA, DoT, Yarra Trams and Telstra—the project required meticulous coordination to ensure continuous construction access while the shopping centre was being built. Rokon was engaged to deliver the essential infrastructure for the retail and commercial precinct, including major intersection works, authority service relocations, basement excavation, new service installations and civil delivery across seven stages of medium‑density lots, along with the construction of the one‑hectare Village Green recreational area.
The project has received significant industry recognition, including the Property Council of Australia’s 2021 VIC State Development of the Year and achieving the Living Building Challenge® Petal Certification—the first retail development globally to do so. Rokon played a key role in enabling this award‑winning, sustainability‑focused project through collaborative planning, effective stakeholder management and the ability to resolve complex brownfield constraints. Working alongside Frasers Property Australia and associated contractors, Rokon ensured smooth site access, coordinated construction sequencing and contributed to the delivery of what is now recognised as the world’s most sustainable shopping centre.
